Johannesburg 30 January 2017: Kwesé TV, Africa’s newest satellite network is here! The Kwesé Network’s Pay-TV satellite service started broadcasting today, beaming Kwesé’s full suite of superior entertainment and sports programming to households in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia, which make up the initial phase of the Kwesé TV rollout across Africa, other countries will be announced in due course. Press release, Johannesburg, 26 January - Kwesé Sports, Econet Media’s premium sports content platform, is currently running Kwesé AFCON5, a football fantasy game for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Players create their own fantasy teams of five players for each round, selected from the best footballers from all teams playing at the tournament, with points and a share of cash prizes totalling 5 000 USD awarded to subscribers based on their players’ real world performances throughout the tournament. Points are awarded for goals, assists, appearances, winning matches and for keeping a clean sheet, and are subtracted if players receive yellow or red cards.

In order to be eligible to win, subscribers are required to be resident in Africa, and must score enough points in each round of the group stages, including quarter-finals, semi-finals and final, to achieve a top five position on the round-by-round leaderboard, and enough points cumulatively over the course of the tournamnet to achieve a top three position on the overall leaderboard.

The fantasy game will close at 23h59 (Greenwich Mean Time) on 5 February 2017 and winners will be contacted immediately for their prizes.

Registration for the game is free. To sign up and play, players can visit and register using their Facebook or Google details to create a profile. Selecting teams, countries and challenging friends is all part of the fun in this game.

VICELAND, the lifestyle and culture channel from VICE Media, to deliver multi-platform programming across linear and digital

Econet Media’s Kwesé TV today announced it will be exclusively adding VICELAND, the youth-focused lifestyle and culture channel from VICE Media, to its entertainment offering across Sub-Saharan Africa. Available as part of Kwesé’s multi-platform offering, VICELAND content will be accessible on pay TV, Catch Up as well as Kwesé’s official app available on Android and iOS.

Embodying the spirit of VICE, the channel will introduce young African audiences to youth cultures from across the globe by offering a contemporary take on music, food, identity, fashion, sports and more. Africa’s first pan-African free-to-air channel boasts impressive international sports content, most of which is exclusive to Econet Media’s Kwesé TV network. The exciting programming line-up includes the Copa del Rey, the Premier League, NBA, NFL, Formula 1 and many other leagues.

KFS is currently available as a free-to-air (FTA) channel which can be accessed through any free-FTA set-top box.
