Breaking news! #WeGotThis

__ Kwesé Sports wins FIFA World Cup 2018 rights, and NBA game for Africa.

Last week I said Kwesé Sports will make a big announcement… Here goes! FIFA, the world governing-body for soccer, has just awarded Kwesé Sports the exclusive free-to-air rights to broadcast the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2018 tournament in sub-Saharan Africa (except South Africa).

Kwesé Sports will broadcast the World Cup exclusively for FREE in over 40 countries, at the same time. This has never happened before in African history. This is why this is such a big deal for us, and for Africa!

# Kwesé Sports will broadcast the finals for free in English, French and Portuguese.

# I believe we will probably broadcast the final itself to over 250m viewers across Africa for free!

# We’ve also secured Pay-TV rights (except South Africa) and will broadcast all matches on our other channels on the decoder and also on the Kwesé Mobile App.

# Every single game will be broadcast, but some will be only available on the decoder and Kwesé App.

These particular rights will be shared with another broadcaster. It is the first time two broadcasters have shared the Pay-TV rights.

It all kicks off at the FIFA Confederations Cup this June and July in Russia, where Africa will be represented by Africa Cup of Nations winner, Cameroon.

How cool is this?!

Well, there is more!

# Kwesé Sports Exclusive: NBA game in South Africa on 5 August!

For only the second time in history, two teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA) in America will play on African soil.

As the official partner of the NBA in Africa, Kwesé Sports has been given the exclusive right to broadcast this game, which will be televised around the world. We really feel honored by this development.

We plan to broadcast the game for FREE in most African countries! It will also be available on the Kwesé decoder and the mobile TV App, in every single African country.

I’ll tell you much more about this star-studded event closer to the date. A lot of global celebrities have already confirmed their attendance. It is going to be one of the biggest sports events ever!

Now as I pointed out before, in any business that you do, it’s important to have a clear understanding of what drives the industry you are in. For example, in the TV business the most important TV programs are what we call “premium and exclusive.”

This means your programs must not be available on another network. Broadcasters pay millions and even billions of dollars to secure “premium exclusive” content.

I can’t wait for these games to begin! I look forward to meeting some of you in Russia and South Africa.

Who was it that said, “If you can dream it, you can do it”?

To be continued. . .

DR Strive Masiyiwa. What business opportunities for small enterprises will be available once you launch your decoders here on South Africa.

    My reply,
South Africa is the most mature Pay Tv market in SSA. It has more than half the total number of subscribers. Taking on this type of market requires a very careful strategy, which is quite different from other markets. In the next few weeks we will unveil a unique platform aimed primarily at that market but which will also be rolled out in other markets.
I think you will see opportunities for entrepreneurs within that strategy. Wait and see!

    Afterthought 1.

Be sure your kids learn that sport isn’t just about sport, or being a celebrity. To become a world-class athlete takes years and years of discipline, hard work, commitment and more. And, of course, sport is a mind game, too.

Kwesé Sports will be giving away complimentary tickets to these global sporting events. Prizes will include all-expense paid travel to either Russia or South Africa! To win, make sure you either have a decoder or regularly use the Kwesé App. Even if you’re not into sport, this will be a great opportunity to travel and make friends. Details will be announced soon on the various Kwesé platforms.

The key lesson for you to take away from this development, as an entrepreneur, is this:
    # The key for any business is having a product or service that people are willing to pay money to get.
This means you must constantly invest in developing your product or service.
In this case Sports programming is one of our “products”. We have to constantly work to improve that product.

Now let me ask you; what is your product? What have you done to improve that product so that it excites your own customers?

For you as an entrepreneur the lesson is simple: “improve your product”!

    My reply,
You really made me giggle with that one!
And just to think we have 3 very big kids channels being added end of April (for contractual reasons, I cannot yet disclose). You are really going to enjoy!
We also have an additional 10 news channels coming on board over the next few weeks. I have personally supervised this aspect.
Next week they start loading the faith based channels; there will be at least 15, including some of Africa’s biggest ministries.

How I wish our Africa’s last born country(South Sudan) was a head in terms of development for my local people to get access to this wonderful events through Kwese Sport.
So I know here most people won’t. But I hope for the future:we will definitely get there.
Thanks a lot and may God bless you sir.

    My reply,
Just before the current unrest erupted I sent a team to South Sudan because we wanted to build a fibre optic cable linking it to the rest of Africa, and the world. It would have brought high speed Internet to the whole country. I was really disappointed but not dispirited. I know that one day we will return and get it done.
I’m still hoping that the government will allow us to at least set up KweseFree Sports Channel, so that people can watch sports like English Premier League and NBA Basketball for free.

Hi Strive Masiyiwa! You brought mobile telephony to Botswana via Mascom Wireless, great initiative, we’re still enjoying the benefits to date, but I don’t hear about Kwese in Bots!!!

    My reply,
Our 24 HR free sports channel (KFS) is already available in Botswana, you do not need a decoder for it, just tune your set using your DTT decoder.
In a few weeks we will launch our pay Tv service (as we already have the licenses), and it will add an additional 75 channels for which you require a decoder.
    Always appreciate your support.

I’m glad you picked up the principle of this particular post; it’s not about sport, it is about “Product”. Every business has its own product.

What a motivation you and Kwesè team has brought in me. Still trying to figure out about the accessibility of Kwesè services and products in Malawi since using the Kwesè App is quiet expensive (due to Malawi’s economy) .

    My reply,
It might surprise you to learn that Malawi was one of the first three countries we launched Kwese last year. We broadcast our 24 hr sports channel on Mufuli.
I fully understand the challenges in the Malawi economy, and I know Data costs will be quite prohibitive on mobile phones.hopefully you can use wifi hotspots for the Kwese App.
Later in the year we will bring our pay Tv service as well but meanwhile I hope you enjoy our free sports channel.

A successful entrepreneur is constantly thinking about three things?
    #Product,
    #People,
    #Process.

The FIFA Rights are part of PRODUCT (enhancement).

Today Kwese Tv announced that it will be distributing its decoders through various mobile operators. The first operator to confirm is MTN Ghana, others will follow over the next few days.

As an entrepreneur answer this question:
What are we addressing by this particular strategy; product, people or process?
