Higher Life Foundation

I did not start out with a grand idea to set up a massive scholarship fund. It started about 25 years ago, when I learnt that one of my employees had died of what was then a new disease called Aids, and had left behind 3 small children.

So I started to pay for their school fees. As more and more of my employees died of this deadly pandemic over the ensuing years, I kept helping the kids. Then one day, my wife and I sat down and decided to widen the program to help other children and it just went on from there. We now have over 42,000 children getting assistance for education from Higher Life Foundation, at any given time, and we have taken it to other countries where we our businesses operate.

One of the unique features of our program is that we have never solicited funds from outside our own family and employees. For many years the program took up virtually all the money we earned from our businesses. But we really enjoyed doing what we were doing. It was like finding a calling.

If you are in business or simply working as a professional, you do not have to wait until you have lots of money, to extend a helping hand in your community. There is a simple dictum I use, “look for where the need is greatest, and help smallest”. There is no greater urgency than to send a child to school, particularly a young girl.

I am Melusi Mwinde a history maker destined by the spirit of God to do good things .
To be part of history makers natured by higherlife is really touching.I grew up in Binga and lost my parents while was still young.I grew up with my grandmother and later my mother’s sister in Manjolo. One of the unique feature I had was intelligence.Though I did not have anyone to help me pursue my academics. In 2003 was in Grade 5 at Manjolo Primary school in Binga when I became part of global leaders and history makers awesome family. My class teacher Mr V.Muleya connected me to Carpenaum Trust which helped orphans and vulnerable children. This marked the beginning of my long journey to my destiny.

In 2005 I wrote my grade 7 and became the highest student in Binga District.I received an award of academic excellence during the BSPZ which was held at Manjolo Secondary school in 2006 June .I also received the prize of being the best Science exhibitor in Mat.North during Provincial BSPZ in Lupane .In 2006 I went to Manjolo Secondary school for my secondary education which is seven Kilometers from Manjolo centre where I stay.I used to walk 14Km per day which translates to 98 km per week ,392 Km per month going to school.Through helping hand of higher life foundation I soldiered on with my education.

Higherlife paid for my fees and gave us food packs to help ourselves. In 2009 I wrote my O level despite us not learning on a previous year 2008 owing to economic challenges which witnessed closure of schools.I did well with my O level and proceeded to ‘A’Level at Binga High school.Through Higherlife Foundation my fees were catred for.I also did well in my A level subjects in 2011.

I went to Midlands State University and enrolled for Bachelor of Arts in History in 2012 August .Through Higherlife Foundation my fees were catred for .Surely I’m a living testimony as without higherlife foundation I could not be where I am today.I graduated in 2016.

I’m happy that am ploughing back to the community through Ruzivo Ambassodaral in Vicfalls,Mat.North.It is always interesting to be part of the family which natured you.I’m inspiring other Youths who think being an orphan and coming from a poor background is the end of the road. With God all good things are possible.Thank you higherlife Foundation.
